Renton Prep Walkathon Raises Money for Mercy Ships

Humility and service are some of the qualities we endeavor here at Renton Prep. In fact, our students have recently dedicated their time to help others in need. They all worked together to raise money for the non-profit organization Mercy Ships. The organization is a civilian hospital ship that travels overseas and provides state-of-the-art care to those in desperate need – for free. Following the model of Jesus, Mercy Ships desires to bring hope, love, and healing to those they serve. Likewise, our students are devoted to sharing that same vision.Renton Prep Walkathon Raises Money for Mercy Ships

Serving Others

With time and effort, much can be accomplished. Together, our students all raised a great $2,645.55 for Mercy Ships! It took many helping hands to convert goals into action and Renton Prep is honored to serve others. On average, each student raised about $40. Students as young as 3rd grade joined in service. The following students from each class donated the most money and, as a result, participated in a lunch outing.

  • 3rd Grade- Simarjot Khaira $60
  • 4th Grade- Julisia Soriano-Budd $150
  • 5th Grade- Lorenzo Ly $340
  • 6th Grade- Renee Chiang $150
  • 7/8th Grade- Elise Cheng $267
  • 9/10th Grade- Nathanael Cooper $60

Taking Action

As for Mercy Ships, the 7th and 8th grade classes took charge and planned the event. Not only did our students donate money, but they invited friends and family to participate in this great cause. On October 31st, students spent half an hour making laps around Liberty Park. Teachers tally marked each lap on a sticky note. The donations were partially a fixed amount while others were determined by the amount of laps students walked. Now that’s taking action! Not to mention, the 7th and 8th grade classes were also the group who raised the majority of the $2,645.55. To celebrate their accomplishment, the two classes will receive a free dress day for their hard work.

Renton Prep Is a WE School

Not only does Renton Prep strive to impact the world locally, but globally as well. Our school has registered as a WE School and is committed to impacting the community. The WE Movement is one that believes in coming together to better the atmosphere. Each month, 7th and 8th grade students organize and promote one service project to the school to provide and make a difference. Thus far, our school has achieved a Hygiene Item drive, a Walk-a-Thon, and are currently working on raising socks for the homeless with the Dignity for Divas sock drive.

Seeking Excellence Long Term

We are thankful for everyone who participated in providing to Mercy Ships. Now, we can praise God for the great services the organization has in store for those in need. This donation is just one of the many that we plan on continuing to bring forth. As a school, we hope to instill characteristics of leadership within students. That way, they too, can inspire and change the world in the future. Visit our social media to stay up to date on our latest happenings. Or give us a call to begin your students enrollment process.
